It is very tempting to get as large glider as possible, hoping for some sleep under the stars during the summer, soothed by a soft gliding motion and a sound of crickets. Be sure that you have enough space or your glider will take the entire porch. 5 foot gliders offer enough space for three people to sit comfortably, or for one person to have a really nice nap. Make sure that your glider has a nice, soft cushion, or even a mattress, add a few pillows and a blanket in a case of a sudden breeze, and you are ready for some luxury relaxation. Gliders made of weather resistant material such as stained red cedar, cypress or polywood require very little maintenance. Just make sure that all moving parts that are made of metal are regularly oiled and cleaned. The cushions and pillows on your glider should have weather-resistant covers so that they do not get moldy if they get wet from a sudden rain. Add a small table in front of your glider to put a plate of cookies, a book or a cocktail, and your 5 foot glider will make your porch or patio into a real outdoor room.
