Porch Swings F.A.Q.

What size porch swing will fit my space?

We recommend at least 6 inches of clearance on either side of your swing, and 24 inches of clearance in front and behind the swing to ensure it does not make contact with the surrounding structure.

What is the best material for a porch swing?

The most common materials used in porch swing construction are wood, metal, wicker, and poly composite - each has their own benefit. Wood bench swings are best if you want a classic porch swing look and enjoy the durability and customization of wood. Metal porch swings can provide a more modern look and feel, and aluminum can provide weather-resistance. Wicker porch swings allow for a broad variety of styles for designer-lead space. And poly composite porch swings are known for their weather-resistance and extremely low maintenance.

How many people can fit on a porch swing?

This can vary based on the specific dimensions and weight capacity of each porch swing model, but generally we would recommend a 2 person capacity on 4 foot porch swings and a 3 person capacity on swings 5 feet or larger.

How do I install my porch swing?

Once your swing is assembled, you will want to connect it to your ceiling, stand, or other structure. Ensure your ceiling or structure has been constructed to hold the weight of the swing and its occupants. You will likely need hardware such an eyebolt, or porch swing hanging hook that installs directly into your joists or beams. Then, while holding your swing level, you will secure your chains or rope to the swing and to the hook, leaving 18-24" from the floor to the swing.

How do I maintain my swing?

This will differ by material, but for the most common wood swings you will want to clean with mild soap and water and restain or repaint every 2-3 years. In order to ensure the longevity of your swing, we highly recommend a swing cover for extra protection.
