While vacationing with his family in the Adirondack Mountains, he quickly realized they were in need of some comfortable outdoor chairs to relax and breathe in the refreshing mountain air. Being a man of great taste and exceptional woodworking skills, he soon came up with the first ever Adirondack style chair. He called it the Westport Plank Chair. Although the reason for him building these one-of-a-kind chairs was for his family, this sturdy, attractive wooden chair soon became a hot commodity in the area! It spread like wild fire. The Westport sold for 20 years before the name was changed to Adirondack-the range that Westport is located in.
